British oboist Melanie Rothman studied with David Walter at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, with Prof. Schilli at the Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg and Prof. Schmitt at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Stuttgart.
She was semi-finalist in the woodwind category of the International Tchaikovsky Competition 2019. She was also a finalist of the Virtual Oboe Competition 2020 and the 1st prize winner of the IDRS Gillet-Fox Oboe Competition 2021.
Principal oboist of the Hessen State Theatre Orchestra in Wiesbaden, Germany, in the seasons 2020-21 and currently alternating solo-oboe of the Duisburger Philharmoniker/ Deutsche Oper am Rhein, she additionally guests as principal oboist with ensembles such as the Bamberger Symphoniker, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, the Ensemble Modern, among others.
As a soloist she has performed the world premiere of Marino’s Oboe Concerto ‘Sul far della note’, the solo role in Francesconi’s ‘Plot in Fiction’ and the Martinů Oboe Concerto; the live recording of which was used by the Sůdwestrundfunk (SWR) during a feature on her recent successes as soloist and prize-winner.
