Bassoon
Kara LaMoure is solo bassoonist of WindSync, one of North America’s most active wind quintets and a frequent prizewinning ensemble that has performed at venues including Ravinia, Strathmore, and the Grand Teton Music Festival. She is also a founding member of the Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet, which explores comedy, pop culture, and the social media landscape. As an orchestral musician, LaMoure has performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and she can be heard playing with the NZSO on the official soundtrack to The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. She also takes interest in global youth orchestra movements, having coached student musicians from Esperanza Azteca (Mexico), Bahia Orchestra Project (Brazil), and Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra (Switzerland). LaMoure’s primary teachers were John Hunt and Christopher Millard, and she is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music’s Arts Leadership Program.
