Created in December, 2016, Double Reed Dish is a podcast by Galit Kaunitz and Jacqui Wilson. Released on the 1st and 15th of every month, Double Reed Dish is a positive, supportive program in which oboists and bassoonists can relate and “geek out” together. Each episode features an interview with a prominent professional in the field and is intended to be enjoyed by double reed enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Powered by shine theory, Double Reed Dish seeks to celebrate all that is good and exciting in the world of double reed performance and pedagogy to create a supportive artistic community- and have a good time doing it!
Galit Kaunitz, Oboe
Oboist Galit Kaunitz lives in Hattiesburg, MS, where she is the Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is an experienced and versatile performer in orchestral, chamber, and solo settings. Galitâs performing career includes solo recitals, chamber music, and orchestral positions. Her solo recitals center cultural identity, community belonging and weaving meaningful narratives into recital programming. She is a member of the Limelight Trio and Magnolia Reed Trio and is a co-host and co-creator of the Double Reed Dish podcast. She performs with the Meridian, and Gulf Coast Symphonies as second oboe/English horn and is regularly invited to give master classes across the United States.
Galit Kaunitz earned her D.M. from The Florida State University, M.M. from The University of Texas at Austin, and B.M. from The Hartt School of Music, Dance, and Theater. Her primary teachers are Eric Ohlsson, Rebecca Henderson, and Humbert Lucarelli.
Jacqueline Wilson, Bassoon
Bassoonist Dr. Jacqueline Wilson is an active performer, pedagogue, collaborator, and advocate. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Bassoon and Theory at Washington State University where she performs with the Solstice Faculty Wind Quintet. Since 2019, she has also been on the faculty of the Lutheran Summer Music Academy (Valparaiso, IN), where she teaches studio bassoon, chamber music, and is a member of the Movere Wind Quintet. As an active soloist and chamber musician, she regularly presents recitals, masterclasses, and clinics. She is a founding member of Ensemble 337, an innovative bassoon and marimba duo with percussionist Dr. Christopher Wilson. An eager contributor to the double reed community, Dr. Wilson currently serves as a Co-Executive Director of the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition and Bassoon Symposium, the Sponsor-a-Member Coordinator for the International Double Reed Society, and co-hosts the Double Reed Dish podcast with oboist Dr. Galit Kaunitz.
